How to Check the SSD Drive speed

Last Updated: Nov 20, 2019 08:58AM EST
The following command string is useful to check SSD Drive Speed on a sensor:

dd if=/dev/zero oflag=sync bs=1M count=1000 of=/root/disk_speed_test; rm -f /root/disk_speed_test

When the above command string is run, 1,000 records are read and written to the SSD, which should take less than two minutes to perform. When finished it will provide an indication of the SSD Drive Speed as follows:

root@pwnix-b8aeed76e498:/home/pwnie# dd if=/dev/zero oflag=sync bs=1M count=1000 of=/root/disk_speed_test; rm -f /root/disk_speed_test
1000+0 records in
1000+0 records out
1048576000 bytes (1.0 GB, 1000 MiB) copied, 11.6155 s, 90.3 MB/s

In this example the SSD Drive Speed is approximately 90MB/s, which is within a normal range between 70-100MB/s.
